The Christ Child Society of Fort Wayne is a philanthropic organization whose mission is to meet the needs of children and their families in our community. We partner with area organizations, referring schools, and social service agencies to identify under-resourced, in-crisis, and at-risk children who would benefit from our services. Our members give of their time and talents in one or more of our service programs:
We are a chapter of the National Christ Child Society which was founded in 1887 in Washington, D.C. by Mary Virginia Merrick. As a teenager, Miss Mary suffered debilitating injuries from a fall. Despite being confined to her bed or a wheelchair for the rest of her life, Miss Mary sought to serve the poorest in her community. Upon learning of an expectant mother who could not afford to clothe her new baby, Miss Mary set out, with the help of family and friends, sewing baby clothing for those in need. Her ability to work past her physical limitations and her zeal for service inspired others to join her in her mission, thus beginning the Christ Child Society.
Her legacy continues today in 45 chapters nationwide. Each chapter's programs are tailored to the needs of their community. Although many Christ Child chapters serve children in the same ways, the local organizations lead the way, and their members set the tone for how to accomplish their goals. All are dedicated to challenging poverty in their communities, one child at a time.
The CCSFW is a philanthropic organization dedicated to child welfare. Its motive and spirit is the love of Christ, expressing itself in personal service for children and youth, regardless of race or creed, to honor the childhood of Christ.
