Christ Child Society of Fort Wayne
The Christ Child Society of Fort Wayne is an organization whose mission is to meet the needs of children and their families in our community. We partner with more than 35 area organizations, referring schools, and social service agencies to identify under-resourced, in-crisis, and at-risk children who would benefit from our services. Our members give of their time and talents in one or more of our service programs:
The Christ Child Society of Fort Wayne is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization entirely administered and staffed by volunteers. We have no paid staff and no income source other than that which we raise for ourselves through donations, gifts, grants, and fundraising events. Funds raised go directly into providing goods, services, and programs for children and families in need.
We are a chapter of the National Christ Child Society which was founded in 1887 in Washington, D.C. by Mary Virginia Merrick. As a teenager, Miss Mary suffered debilitating injuries from a fall. Despite being confined to her bed or a wheelchair for the rest of her life, Miss Mary sought to serve the poorest in her community. Upon learning of an expectant mother who could not afford to clothe her new baby, Miss Mary set out, with the help of family and friends, sewing baby clothing for those in need. Her ability to work past her physical limitations and her zeal for service inspired others to join her in her mission, thus beginning the Christ Child Society. Her legacy continues today in nearly 50 chapters nationwide dedicated to challenging poverty in their communities, one child at a time.
The CCSFW shall be an organization primarily dedicated to child welfare. Its motive and spirit shall be the love of Christ, expressing itself in personal service for children and youth, regardless of race or creed, to honor the childhood of Christ.
